IOW  Amputees  Group

The IOW Amputees Group provides an all round service to the people of the Island. All those with limb loss, whether from a congenital reason or from amputation in later life belong to the Group. A befriending service to all amputees plus their Family and Friends is provided and regular outings to different venues on the Island are arranged for coffee and a chat. The Committee, ten, is made up of members of the Group. Anyone from the Group can become a committee member and we are always looking out for more people to join us. The Committee is in regular contact, via Trudie our new Liaison Officer, with the Prosthetic Centre Management Team and any problems or concerns are discussed in an open and frank manner. Various topics are being discussed at the moment with a view to improving the service already provided.

We understand how difficult it is to lose a limb and the impact it has on our lives, we also understand how this trauma affects our families and friends,  who may sometimes feel that they are at a loss as to how to help us.  Through this Group we hope to be able to help everyone, either by offering support from our own personal experiences or those of our own family and friends.   Most of us can say that we have 'been there and done that' and that we know all about 'good days' and 'bad days'.   Sometimes all it needs is a friendly voice on the other end of the phone - someone who can offer you support because they know and understand exactly what you are talking about!    What we can say though is that you can or will be able to do most things, it may take you longer or you may be a bit slower and have to do things in a different way - but you can do it!!

We can't put our phone numbers on the web but promise that if you email us we will get back to you immediately.

The Group is able to fund raise and was recently successful in securing £3000 over three years from the Grassroots Funding to help pay for this Newsletter and Website plus some much needed IT equipment.

Registered Charity No. 1081950

The Grassroots Grants Fund is managed by the Hampshire and Isle of WIght Community Foundation.   The Grassroots grants are available to Group's with an annual turnover of less than £30,000 to help support small groups who work at the 'grassroots level' within their society.

We would also like the thank the            Isle of Wight Rural Community Council for all their help and support over the years and for finding Mark Glover, a volunteer, for us. Mark has created this website and we are grateful for his expertise.
