The main number for contacting the Centre is 01983 552359. Calls will be taken by Debbie or messages can be left. Remember - the phone is often less busy in the afternoon, calls made before 4pm can expect a response by the end of the day.
The prosthetic service is managed on the Island by an Amputee Rehabilitation Team, which was formed at the end of 2008. This Team is called ART for short. The Team is led by the Head of Prosthetics, Carol Mabey who works two days a week for the Prosthetic Service.
The members of the Team are:
Carol Mabey Head of Prosthetics, Senior Prosthetist.
Eluzai Hakim Consultant Physician
Caroline Robertson Senior Physiotherapist
Ann Wilson Prosthetist/Orthotist
Jane Watson Senior Occupational Therapist
Annette Cocker Physiotherapy Technical Assistant
David Batten Assistant Practitioner, Prosthetics
Jacobus Munro Associate Specialist Physician (Rehabilitation)
Veyusi Mehmet Consultant Surgeon
Elaine Apthomas Head of Physiotherapy
The principal aims of the Team are to secure the best possible care for those who have lost a limb and to:
-
Be a point of contact for all people with limb loss on the Island
-
Provide support before and after amputation
-
Help with communication between different teams at St Mary's and on the Mainland
-
Provide a safe and comfortable environment in which people can learn to use an artificial limb
-
Provide an artificial limb which helps people to reach their potential
-
To provide support for people living with limb loss, as their needs change.
If you feel that your needs are changing and you would like the care that your receive to be reviewed then do contact the Team on 534365 and ask for an ART Review. A member of the Team will then get in touch to discuss how this best can be done.

We will be updating this page regularly when we have more news from the Centre. Carol, Head of Prosthetics, will be giving us details of the changes that are going to be happening at the Centre, mainly to do with the proposed link with a Mainland Centre and also the possibility that there will be a specialist Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, who specialises in amputee care, coming to the Island to see Island patients on a regular basis.
